Basement door doesnt seal...

Hey everyone. I just bought a house. It was built in the 1940s. I live in southern Indiana. The problem is the basement door does not have a seal on the bottom so water just pours in when it rains. The door is steel and is not a normal size so the builders that remodeled the place cut the door so it is foam on the bottom. I need to find some way to create a seal. I am on a really tight budget so an inexpensive fix is much appreciated.

Here are some pics of the area.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

You can install a door sweep on the bottom of the door but until you solve the real problem (water cascading down the steps) all of your efforts with the door will the fruitless.

The water has to go somewhere, you need to control it at the topside not the bottom.

Look in the trash for the threshold that was removed when the door was cut and get that installed--along with the door bottom that Ron mentioned,

And install a drain---that's a door ,not a bulkhead so water will pass it.

+1

Until you fix the source of the water or control it, not much is going to work that effectively.

Just install a drain or a passage to redirect the water first.

One more vote for addressing the drainage issue... The threshold/sweep combo is a must though too, unless you don't mind mice, bugs, and a ton of air leakage.
