Appropriate Type of Ladder

I had a contractor come out today to clean my gutters and windows. When he was doing the job, I noticed that the kind of ladder he uses is one in which it breaks down into 6-7 sections that are about 4-5 foot each. The ladder will become a straight ladder once you put all of the sections together. Do you know what that kind of ladder is called? I would be interested in getting one for home use. I like the fact that it is compact and easy to store.

Welcome to "DIY"!
Did the ladder break down into separate sections -
or: did the sections fold together?

Look up Little Giant ladders.

Call the contractor back and ask him.

It was a ladder that broke down completely (and not folded over) into 4-5 ft sections. I searched Google and found that the ladder he bought was a Metallic Sectional Ladder. I think I will get one for my home use.

In the old days they were made of wood and stacked like you described. That was a typical window washer's ladder.

I did some more research yesterday and I think either the Little Giant Type 1A Classic ladder (Model 26) or the Werner MT-26 ladder. Both of these ladders will give me the ability to reach my gutters and/or get on my roof. They are not as light as the Metallic Sectional Ladders, but have more functionality which is nice.
