Advice for replacing windows with French doors?

I am looking for advice.
I would like to replace side-by-side double windows in my kitchen with French doors and later build a patio. I have never done anything like this (just purchased first home a year ago), so I am going to hire a contractor. I have $2000 to spend.

Some details:
- Ranch style house built in 1989
- There is an electric line running between outlets below the windows, so that will need rerouted
- The outside of the house is vinyl siding
- The is a soffit on the outside of the house with a 23 inch overhang

My questions are:
- Is $2000 enough for the door and its installation?
- Which door manufactures should I choose from?
- What can I expect for labor costs?

Any advice/tips/warnings is welcome.

Edit: I measured the total opening for the widonws from the outside of the house: 67 in. wide x 56.5 in. height. Thanks concretemasonry

What is the rough opening (height and width) of the double windows? (pry off some trim to see).

If they are wider and higher than a standard door you may not need much additional framing.

If not, you have the choice between a custom door or some re-framing of the opening width and/or height.

When it comes to doors and windows, the installation may be more important the the quality of the window since typically over 50% are installed improperly.

Make sure one of these gets installed under the door if you do not want water damage to the floors.

I assume the height you are measuring on the windows are the windows themselves. Measure from the floor to the top of the windows, that way you know how high the header is above them. If you have about 82 inches a standard door height will work. Then if would just be a matter of finding a door for your width. Doors come in 2 inch increments.

A double set of 32" doors is 64" plus 2" for jambs and rough opening is 66". Your width should be close...
