Hey everyone,

It's been a while since i have posted here, but it's a great place for results. I have (2) AcroTilt vinyl double hung windows on the patio that are hard to close and open. I knew one of them was hard since the install, but the other just started to do it. Is there a way to lubricate the windows? If so what to use? I have a feeling that i will need to purchase a balance spring tool, so where can i purchase one from? Next question, the shoe on one looks a little warn out, how do i replace the shoe with spending $150.00 and the spreaders?

First check if the "tilt Pins" [ the things on the bottom of the sash] enguage the shoe cam properly. Maybe the cam is not going back to operation more. [ meaning no friction]
A good lube is WD 40.
The balancers will not get tighter over the years. Note if there tight the bottom sash will move very easy.

Do not use WD 40 on your windows. Before you use any product on the window, check to see what the cause of the hard opening is.
The jambs could be too tight to the sashes.
-look at the side spacing between the jamb and the sashes. If it's too small the screws might need to be adjusted or insulation removed from the sides.
-check to see if the mid jamb adjustment screws are misadjusted. If the jambs are curved in, you have an issue.
One of the counter balances could be broken or disengaged.
-tilt the sash in to see both sides are engaged in the receivers.
The interior stops could have been installed too tightly against the window, putting pressure on the sashes.
If you need to lubricate the jambs and sashes, use a spray silicone. It goes on clear and once the propellant dries, the silicone remains to lubricate the parts. A wet lubricant will attract dirt and cause binding over time.
