2 tall Pella casement windows that have stuck upper release.

The latch on left side is up, the lower locking latch is free but the upper latch won't release and can't open window. How do we get into side and how do we get the upper lach to release so we can open window? Do I have to take the left side trim wood off to get at interal works?

Try lifting the sash from outside.

What floor is the window on?

Does the latch not move or does it move and do nothing? If it won't move, the window is more than likely stuck because of improper header construction...size, support...etc. Try gently prying up on the bottom of the window while working the latch. If you get it open you may need to do a little work on the jamb or the sash itself.

it doesn't move and the lower window is only able to move about 1" out...upper latch stock, can't move up to unhook latch. DOes the side trim wood come off to get at the inside guts?

Post a picture of the window.

It is impossible to give advice/feedback without know more about the window (i.e. model, generation, mechanism, etc).

I have the exact same problem as Savage308. It's a Pella casement window in which the lower latch works fine but the upper latch is stuck closed. The lower latch will open but I can only force the bottom of the window out less than an inch because the upper latch won't disengage. I have tried sliding a putty knife along the edge but to no avail. Also tried lifting up on the sash but no good. What do I do now?
