Uninsulated vaulted ceiling

I've been doing quite a bit of reading lately, and I cant seem to find any posts with my situation. I have a mid 50's house in western Washington that I am starting to believe was originally a cabin with multiple add-ons. I am curious the correct way to insulate the vaulted ceiling. It is currently T&G 2x6 covered with plywood and shingles. Thats it... Zero insulation. Zero "cavity" to add insulation. How to proceed?

Thanks

Its somewhat hard to explain, but I was thinking of "building down" the ceiling with 2x6's and filling the new cavity with rigid foam insulation. Hot roof design. Is there any issues with this plan?

How big a square footage?

Easier to do from the top down to be honest and better performance.

How far apart are the rafters?

For your location, R-38 is required in a vaulted ceiling; pp 26, Zone 4C; https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...MaBQkw&cad=rja
