Unfinished Tool Room

I have a tool room in my basement right off my garage. The tool room ceiling is not finished. So the beams are exposed. The tool room is right below my Master Bedroom. I want to put insulation in between the beams.
What “R” number should I use?
If I can’t put up sheetrock right away should I put something else up like plastic?

Is the space conditioned?

If so, insulating the ceiling will only help with noise transmission.

If not, I highly recommend that you properly seal all connection between the two spaces. Plastic will not be an acceptable thermal or ignition barrier not to mention you will be placing the vapor barrier on the cold side of the wall which is also not recommended.

My thoughts exactly
