Simple insulation question

I'm adding insulation to the walls separating the living space from the crawl spaces in my finished attic. Currently nothing there but panelling. Is it ok to use batts? With or without facing?

Should the facing go on the interior or exterior side? The exterior side (inside the crawl space) is the open wall, not the living space side.

Thanks.

can you get to the backside of this crawlspace ?

do you have any pics ?

Vapor retarder recommendations are climate specific.

Where is the home located?

That all being said, the rigid board will outperform the batts.

What did you end up doing with this project?

thanks

Those are called knee-walls. Around here we typically air seal the penetrations, add or reinstall the batting in the cavities, add another layer of batting horizontally, and then wrap over with tyvek.
the rigid board works as well, but it can get pricey.
