Should I seal up attic window?

House was built in 1951 and has a "typical" window right below the gable vent. The bad thing is that this is the side that gets hammered with sun.

Would it be better to just remove the window, frame out the remaining hole and put in another vent or just leave the window but seal and block the sunlight from entering the attic?

You can just put a foil covering to the inside surface of the window or a light colored fabric. That will negate much of the radiant heat gain.
