Rigid Foam Insulation Installation Basement

Hello All

I am sure this topic has been covered before but just to make sure I have all the nuances sorted out in my head I've decided to create this thread.

I am planning on finishing my basement into liveable space and I am going to begin my project by putting up rigid foam insulation. I'm planning on using 1-1/2 inch thick rigid foam after removing existing fibreglass in the bag thats currently on the upper half of the foundation wall.

I have 2 questions:

1) for rough imperfection and small ridges on the concrete, is it better to use an angle grinder or will a chisel and hammer do just fine

2) should I plan on installing the rigid from right from the sill down to the concrete slab floor or leave some space. If there is space to be left should that space be subsequently filled with sprayable foam insulation.

Thanks!

It has been covered hundreds of time. Update your location at http://www.diychatroom.com/profile.php?do=editprofile in the "Additional Information" field. You can go to buildingscience.com for information on how to properly insulate your basement.

You do need to look at what Zone you are in also. That would determine what you need to do for the basement.

I updated my location.

In addition to my previous question, I'm planning on insulating the subfloor using 1" rigid foam board. Is it common practice to secure the stud wall plate on top of the rigid foam board using a product like tapcons?

edited:

alternatively I am considering going with a dricore subfloor which as I understand does require the stud wall plate to be installed right on top of it

You added your country, not actual location. Canada is a big area up North.
