Insulation Between Floors - Vap Barrier?

Now that I've passed my framing inspection...time to insulate.....

My plans call for R30 insulation between the 1st and 2nd floor.

Should I use faced insulation (faced side to the 1st floor) or just bare bats?

Why would you add any insulation between the two floors?

Thermal insulation does very little for noise. If you really care about noise use roxul safe and sound. Otherwise skip it entirely as it's pretty much a waste of money unless you're planning on really conditioning one floor and not conditioning the other floor at all.

I agree with mike about the roxul safe and sound, great product and user friendly. I'm sure the call out on insulation is more for sound transmission than "insulation value". if you decide on batts I would use unfaced.

It's unanimous... no faced in Zones 1-3; http://www.buildingscience.com/docum...commendations/

Some would do the stud bays of the upstairs plumbing drains, perimeter of bathrooms, under stairs, and laundry room.
