Question

insulation 2

I've read all I could find for my particular situation and got a couple of replies (thanks guys) and I know enuff now to re-think the whole concept!
Situation is: I have what appears to be rock wool laying in my attic varying in depth from 0-5''. house is 1962, well built, I live in Eastern Oregon 8' of snow and not much below 0 temp. and it is generally quite dry.
I'd like to add insulation to the attic, there isn't but 4' of headspace at the highest point and you can barely make it to within 10' of the edge of the house.
I don't want to take all that rock wool out and want to add insulation.
should I forget the vapor barrier issue and just add fibreglass insulation between the ceiling joists? (not the roof joists)
Thanks, Jim,

It would probably be a lot easier to blow in cellulose over all of it.

Roof has 12 X 14'' screened vent each end and eves have nearly full length 1.5'' screen. (length of house ....50') I am told I need to enlarge these vents although with enough insulation up there I don't know if this would be necessary.

Air Seal the attic first, then insulate.

If the soffits are not vented, you can blow the insulation right down to the eaves.
