Definitely duct work above ceiling. So you are saying synthetic felt is worse for open cell spray foam? I told the building maintainer that they have major problems coming up, but they didn't want to hear it. Plywood us buckling in several spots on the building and they get random leaks when it's cold.

Re: Insulating My Attic

They are hosed either way at this point. The roof has to come off and the foam is coming with it if enough of the sheathing is shot. If it is just near the bottom or in selective areas, you could replace those sections and either cover the foam with a layer of CC SPF or another vapor control layer.

If the roof is already buckled in a bunch of other spots, probably better to just rip the whole thing off at that point.

I contend that whether they used felt vs. synthetic is of little to no consequence. The shingle aren't breathing to let the moisture out either way.

Re: Insulating My Attic

Fred, So... like I said (links and quote) that you needed an interior vb in post 7 and 9... maybe all my questions confused you, sorry.

WoW, thanks for leaving a link I used on this forum a few months ago for me- I'm familiar with it, but you missed the point and that link doesn't pertain. I'll start a new thread with the same question for others later...

ARAMP1; it would be pretty difficult the "surgically" insulate the existing floor, unless 2x12 joists. You need R-30 for your location; http://energycode.pnl.gov/EnergyCode...tate=Tennessee So if you have 2x10 (or smaller) floor joists, you need to compress R-38 (12") down to the 9-1/4" joists; http://www2.owenscorning.com/literat...20Bulletin.pdf

Build a new deck stacked over the existing to get required insulation in, same length/span with 1/2" shims between. IMO. no OSB if in UN-conditioned attic, open to exterior air, esp. Aspen species.

Gary

17,000 dryer fires a year, when did you last clean the inside of the dryer near motor or the exhaust ducting?

It was actually for Fred as I was conversing with him.

I didn't see your name listed as an author on that whitepaper from OC. My apologies if I somehow cited information that created without proper credit.

Good to have you back policing the links.
