Garage ceiling installation

Hi, I need some advice. I have a regular 1 car size garage. Walls and ceiling is covered with drywall and right above is a living room. In the winters the garage gets quite cold making the living room floor cold as well. Can I add anything to the ceiling to prevrent the cold getting through. Any changes to the living room floor is not an option as this was recently renovated with hard wood floors. Any advise is greatly appriciated.
Thanks
Mario

If you were to "go over it" anything you would use would have to be fireproof.
Removing the sheetrock in the ceiling in the garage and building the joist down then adding more insulation and making sure the outside areas and any light fixtures where air sealed is the way to go in my option.

This might be a good area for a closed cell foam in the ceiling.

How old is the house?
More recent construction should have some insulation between the spaces.
Investigate yours (poke a hole and look if needed).

If the joists are not insulated... blow something into the space.
Similarly... the space above that finished room.

Even if they are insulated... most of what you need will be supplemental heat (like a space heater) in the finished space above.
