DOW Styrofoam RM vs Owen Corning F250

I am looking to put 2" XPS against my basement walls (southern NH) and recently started looking at "reclaimed" material. I know I can get new OC F250 from Home Depot for $17.25 per board (2"x2'x8'), but just heard from someone that has reclaimed Dow XPS boards - for $4.40 per board!

The pic provided has DOW Styrofoam in the diamond logo and RM extruded under it to the right.

I think I am looking at an older version of Dow ROOFMATE XPS, the spec sheet shows the same R10 value for 2" XPS. Is there any reason I shouldn't use this in my basement? I plan to put up the XPS and then a drywall in front of it with more R13 insulation. Other than the reclaimed stuff being dirty - is there any issue?



PS. Any thoughts on what I should do on top of my concrete wall where the wires are run?

I am thinking of cutting the top piece of XPS short and using Great Stuff foam to seal the wires in.....

I pulled the trigger and had it delivered..... and oh my are they filthy. The one pictured above is sparkling clean in comparison.

It there a good, quick way to clean extensive dirt/grime of these things? Can I pressure wash them, or will that harm the material? What about cleaning products, will they soak in to the material or anything like that?

My guess is most of that dirt/dust is clinging on by static. Using a regular garden hose should be sufficient.

Yeah, I thought I'd try the non-powered version first

I think I'll it a try this afternoon, it is supposed to be SEVERAL degrees above freezing!

Well it did get much cleaner, but still "dirty" - usable. And I did find a 10% drop out from ruined panels or significant damage. Not sure it was worth the extra work.... but it is installed

It was worth it. For the price you got it and for the fact that you are keeping it out of the landfills.
