I live in Greenville, South Carolina. I have a 3 ft vented crawl space below town house unit and the wood floors are very cold and drafty. I have in place open web floor truss construction sitting on block stemwalls with rim plate. The trusses have R-19 insulation between, the crawl space has vapor barrier plastic on ground, edges not sealed. The R-19 appears to be faced with a vapor barrier backing on floor side, and insulation is held off bottom of floor sheathing with about 6 inches or more.
As an improvement, I know need to seal pipe penetrations and rim perimeter. I am not sure what the easiest improvement should be to the floor. I think that replacing R-19 with non faced (avoid trapping moisture)
R-30 insulation and maybe adding rigid insulation (no vapor barrier) to bottom of floor trusses. Or seal-off floor entirely with blanket insulation/ vapor barriers to bottom of floor trusses, sealing perimeter and open-up floor to hvac climate control by adding floor vents.
Are there any better ideas or problems with the ones I am proposing above?
