Question

Brick Chimney Wall Insulation

I pulled off the paneling in my living room to re-insulate and drywall it, and found a brick wall in the middle of the wall - it's the chimney from my basement fireplace.
There was no insulation over the chimney, and they had some fibreglass insulation beside it... my question is:
What can I use to safely insulate an interior brick chimney wall? Can I cut roxul into 1" batts and put it against the chimney? Should I be using some sort of rigid insulation? Or should it be left alone, with a 1" gap between my chimney wall and the new drywall?

Brick Chimney Wall Insulation

Roxul is probably your safest bet.
