Best way to insulate the outside of cement block house?
I want to cover a portion of my cement block house with vertical siding. I plan on fastening furring strips to the block and using the highest R value foam insulation I can find. Is it better to put the foam on the outside of the strips or in between the strips. I was just thinking what a pain to deal with the over 1 1/2 inch thickness I will add to the outside of the wall if using 3/4" furring strips and 3/4" installation and then the siding. Jim
Go with the 3/4.
You do know all your windows and door trim also need to be build out 3/4 right?
It would be a great time to wrap all the trim with coil stock. And add vinyl soffits.
I bend the coil so it has a nailing flange on the outsides which also keeps water from getting in behind the J moulding.
At the bottoms of the walls I'd suggest you run a band of 1 X 6 vinyl lumber with Z moulding then the siding.
That will prevent damaging the siding with the weed wacker.
