baffle distance

All the pictures I see of baffles shows them "in between" the roof rafters with one to two inches of air space between the baffle and the roof sheathing. Is there any reason why I can't do it like this (as it is easier for me). There is 7 inches between the roof sheathing and the baffle. Doesnt that "allow" a nice flow of air from the soffit to the attic. I will air seal where needed, then put back the fiberglass that was there and then blow in about 8-10 inches of cellulose. Is this Ok??

No reason.

Get the top plate sealed up though before getting the baffles in there.

baffle distance

sorry for my "novice-ness". the top plate is where the sheet rock from the ceiling below meets the (wood) just inward of the sofit vent . The baffles I made actually "rest" on top of the top of this wood. I intend to "great stuff" the bottom of the baffles ( on "my interior side" where I can reach it , against the top plate). Sooooo the bottom of the baffle is sealed onto the top plate. If you look where the sheetrock meets the baffle you can see some wood ( which I believe is the top plate . Will this be good??
