attic insulation

Can flat pink insulation be put over top of blown insulation that is already in my attic?

I don't think that's a very good idea. You really need to have more blown in. How deep is what's already up there?
They usually blow in about R-30's worth.

Why do you think it's not a very good idea?

I'm not sure, which is why I said "I don't think". Isn't it supposed to be fluffy, not compressed?
I really don't know what I'm talking about.
The only thing I am sure of about insulation is that most of it is itchy and gets in your eyes. I wouldn't do insulation for $20/hr, though I've had to handle it and be around it a million times.

I would not put batt insulation on top of blown in ... because it would compress the blown in and it would lose ot R factor. Here in the north the insulation companies are suggesting R-50 as the norm. May be over-kill but if it works as it should, payback in heat savings is worth it.

If the blown-in is fiberglass and the batt insulation is fiberglass, you will be fine, they both weigh the same (0.04) per square foot 1" thick; http://www.bc.com/dms/wood/ewp/3_Gui...0Materials.pdf

You will be increasing the density, which is a good thing; The "biggest loser" in fiberglass insulation....

The R-value vs. the cost of insulation has its limits; http://www.enersavesystems.com/pdf/E...Insulation.pdf

Air-seal the attic first to utilize the money spent on the added insulation; http://www.jlconline.com/cgi-local/v...170a32100a05c7
