From attic, insulate short open wall cavity above window?

I'm insulating the attic of our 1921 home, being careful to keep the rafters clear where they come down to meet the walls for ventilation. However, at a gabled area in the attic, where there is an attic fan, and where the rafters don't come down, there is a shorter span where wall studs extend up from the window bay in the floor below, and that wall cavity is just open up to the point where the attic fan sits. Can I fill that small area with loose-fill insulation, or do I need to leave it open for ventilation?
Thank you for any help.

I pulled back the loose fill but my camera isn't liking the lighting... Basically where you see the main line of insulation, the floor joists go another few inches, and the open area then drops into a maybe 2-ft deep wall cavity. Obviously it's not a huge area to insulate but it's something; I just don't want to cause moisture problems.

Insulation looks a bit shinny in the back.

Make sure it is not vermiculite!!!

Ha, no, but I'm glad you're looking out for me. ;-) you might be looking at an old flakey paint job, which come to think of it, is probably lead-based. If it's not one thing it's another.

Is there brick veneer or sheathing, if an outside wall? Location?

Thanks for the welcome- yah, it's an exterior wall with brick veneer. If it's like the rest of the house, there's that wall cavity with plaster/lathe on one side, studs, then 1x8s wrapped in old tar paper; then another air cavity, then brick veneer.

It's not a pooch! Can't say we use it all that much, though. Mostly because I don't like leaving windows downstairs at night.
