So is it? Should I feed it to the chickens?

Leah, it looks like spring foliage of Japanese honeysuckle. Take a look here and see if this is it:

If so, honeysuckle has a lot of protein, equivalent to alfalfa. Our goats love the stuff.

hmmmm. The leaves are more notched than I find on honeysuckle. I'm going to take a better picture tomorrow with some more description.

Yes I agree. I've always wondered if the notched leaves were just a different variety of honeysuckle, or something else, so your question sparked me to search for those images. If you look at the very first picture, it has notched leaves and says "spring growth." But could be this wepbage is wrong too. It happens.

just pull gently on the thing. If it comes out easily, it wasn't a weed but something you would have enjoyed in your lawn.

Looks like a tree seedling, better pics of a leaf would help.
In my former life ,I was an arborist, so I SHOULD know what it is, but it was a long time ago.

AND WE HAVE A WINNER! Sweet Autumn Clematis (Clematis terniflora). A asian native but commonly cultivated in gardens. Produces a white flower in the fall. My neighbor has one on her fence, and this is surely it's daughter. I moved it to a better location and hope it does well.
