space for flowers

I have a lot of plants and flowers but I need more space to keep them, especially during the winter. I was thinking of either making a terrace room for them or perhaps a flower room in the basement. We have a terrace but it is not completely closed off, I would need to put in huge windows to protect them from the cold but still keep the view of the garden as well as daylight. The other option is to have them in a basement room with lots of lamps on during the day. Which option do you like the best/ see more problems with?

Basement with some florescent grow lights could work and would be cheaper than windows for the terrace? Just so it is not too hot and the soil doesn't get so wet it picks up mold spores. Plants love fresh air so make sure there is ventilation down there. Build them a nice drain pan with gravel or something for drainage and humidity if it is dry. Don't feed them when they are hiding out under the house!

Heavy plastic for the terrace for the winter?

Do check for fungus and insect infestations before you move plants inside and stick them close together. Deal with such while you still have outside ventilation---especially if if spraying with fungicides and insectisides is your approach.

I think I will go with the basement room for the flowers , i have found good lamps and it feels great to get into the room full with plants and flowers there , great for meditation and privacy for sure

I built (2) 4' box windows at my last house for plants, extended out ~2' from the house
Worked very well & did not have to pay electric for lights
This house I built a sunroom & have another room under construction with quite a few South facing windows
I also built a 7x10 greenhouse up against the back of the house - faces South

Any chance you put that over a window to pull in free heat?

I originally built it over 2 windows, but too big & I didn't like removing the view of the back yard from that room
It does keep the wall of that room much warmer & the whole room is always warmer then the rest of the house (with heat on)

So I will be building a soda can heater to go inside the greenhouse
That way greenhouse air is not entering the house
On a sunny day the greenhouse is over 100 now

I'm also building a solar heater for my 2nd floor
