Raspberry Canes

We had 10 raspberry canes (bareroot) shipped to us the end of March. I planted them immediately as the whether was pretty nice. We had a May snow 2 wks ago. There haven't been any hard freezes but a couple of borderline frosty mornings. I don't see any growth or buds on the canes and weather has been in the 70s and 80s for two weeks. Are they dead?

I know some canes die back and then new shoots arrive, but I'm concerned that something may have happened.

Get some locally. Just take a walk in your neighborhood and find some, then ask the people if you can take a few shoots. Bring some dirt with you to replace what you take.

You'll probably find someone who will want you to take an entire row.

My folks lived in Ohio and grew everything.........but raspberries. They just didn't do well.

Check with a local nursery.

Do they flex and spring back when you bend them gently? If so, they may still work out. If not, they have been frozen in transit or sitting on a truck if it was cold enough to snow so late. Were the roots mulched and wrapped in protective wrap?

I was able to grow most everything in California but berries for some reason. I don't know why they were problematic.

By the way, at some point you might want to update your profile with basic geographic information so we know where you are.

not knowing where you are does not help
around here, they are almost pushing fruit, so I would say they are dead
