powdery mildew

Steve and gardeners:

This is the fourth year that my tall phlox has gotten mildew. This year the flowers aren't even in bud yet.
I always spray for that, but the stuff spreads like fire, and my precious giant zinnias are in close proximity

Can anybody think of a reason not to yank the whole huge patch and hurl them into the farmers field once and for all ? Anybody know of a permanent solution besides the above described?

powdery mildew

It sounds like something is going on that is providing a perfect environment for the situation so I would get rid of the plants attracting it. If there is a danger it will get airborne dumped in the farmers field you should bag it and have it hauled off. Do note it could be soil borne as well as carried on the plants. The spores may be splashing up when you water. Drip irrigation can help with this. And of course do not water later in the day then the plants can dry off before dark.

I never water these guys, but you are probably right about the soil being infected. Best get rid of it all and start over
