We bought this house last year and are considering cutting the right part of the tree at the ground. From the picture, you can see the white birch tree splits into 3 main trunks at the ground. We are not ready to remove the whole tree but I would like to remove the trunk closest to the house. Will this kill the tree?
Remove the stem, as suggested, but pay attention to the timing because they bleed like hell; literally pouring water from the cut end, which may potentially weaken and kill the tree. Do it when most leaves are gone and before the frost or late winter of next year.
oh. don't let that thing get to big. otherwise you will have a large bill when it comes time to take it down.
