Croc'd in 2010 Da Gahden

Well I think most of the crocus' are up
I have a few thousand......
There are actually another couple hundred to go

Near the driveway

Looking along the front

Looking from the front towards the side garden
---beyond the front area with a lot of crocus' coming up
I added the side garden last year...so only a hundred or more so far on this side - the single line in the distance
----beyond the 1st fence post @8'

we have some trees in full bloom here not sure what kind. I really worry about the fruit trees coming on to soon, we always seem to get a killing freeze end of march into april. fingers crossed not this year

Nice, Dave! All my croc's are starting to wilt - guess they're done for the year. But my first dozen (of around 1700) daffodils opened today.

Looks like a few of the 330 tulips may not come up again this year :(

Scuba_Dave 03-21-2010 09:31 AM

Yeah, I only buy daffodils, crocus, hyacinth (+muscari -sm hyacinths), alliums & others that I know will come back every year
Not many of the tulips come back every year
One year I had crocus coming up thru some snow

I have (had) about 7000 bulbs or more
I still have several areas that need bulbs...but need to wait for the new driveway to go in 1st
Then what's left of the old driveway will be converted into another garden

For bulk orders I order from bloomingbulb.com....30% off right now on Fall orders
Crocus I order 500 of a color at a time, usually 3 colors each time
Daffodils & others I usually order at least 100 at a time
I also order from Colorblends.com - generally larger bulbs then bloomingbulb, but more $$

Re: our brief botany discussion on some other thread.

Here's a rare example of a daffodil going polyploidy:

http://www.diychatroom.com/members/l...9-daffodil.jpg

Both these blooms are one flower not just multiple blooms on one stem - - it's a type of duplication that causes a mirror image replication. Plucked it out of my backyard today.

I also have some daffodils that that sprung up in the middle of my yard - so I guess they're spreading by seed too.

Scuba_Dave 04-01-2010 11:12 PM

So is that good or bad ?

Leah Frances 04-02-2010 09:10 AM

Mostly it's weird. Most commonly you see double/tripled flowers that are 'stacked' like paper cups. This side by side mutant is just a little different.

Scuba_Dave 04-07-2010 08:50 PM

The Hyascents are in full bloom
Keep thinking some wimmen are in the area
Siding the house & a snake slithered away thru the wall
Hope he's hunting mice

Leah Frances 04-07-2010 09:16 PM

uck. Hyacinths and bradford Pears smell like 'Headache' to me.

Snakes.... I don't know how they smell. Probably, snakey.

Scuba_Dave 04-07-2010 09:45 PM

I'm just waiting for my lilacs to get bigger
They weren't more then twigs that I dug up from my old house
One is now over 8' tall

Forsythia is blooming
A bunch of sunflowers are growing in the greenhouse
This warm weather has really great for getting seedlings going
I still have a bunch in the sunroom
I may move some up to the addition into the picture window

So far I have only seen smaller snakes
I guess they can eat smaller mice
I'd just like the snakes to get a little bigger & get rif of all the mice & voles/moles whatever

I had one lone daffodil in the woods that I transplanted
I'm not sure why that file did not display
Its size is OK

I'm uploading a BMP as a test
AH OK - BMP files are attachments, a JPG will display

Scuba_Dave 04-08-2010 12:21 PM

I also have 5 Almond tree seedlings growing
Once these get bigger I'm going to plant them by the stream
One tree by the stream is almost dead, so I want to plant some more to help hold the soil

Scuba_Dave 04-11-2010 05:41 PM

I've moved more stuff out to the greenhouse
I transplanted & thinned out tomato seedlings to different pots
I have ~125 out in the greenhouse growing
Then I still have more seedlings in the sunroom still
I also moved some pepper seedlings out there
And some unknown seedlings...happens every year...I think they are peppers
But the leaves do not look like any that I remember in the past

I need to build a bench to put more plants out there
Looks like nice weather all week so I may get that built

Scuba_Dave 04-19-2010 08:54 PM

Why I don't buy flowers any more
I just transplant seedlings that com up from my perennials
Or I divide rooted plants to new areas
This is one of the new areas that I planted
Must have been a good winter/spring as seedlings are growing all over the place

Seedlings are : Liatrias, black-eyed susans, 3' tall phlox, lupines, white daisies..plus others
