What is the color of hot-mud when dry.....

It's been 3 days since I taped a but joint (one side was butt - other was tapered). The tapered obviously got a thicker bed.

There are some area which I floated a 10" wide taped butt joint as well.

What is the color of hot mud when dry.
It's the weirdest thing...as the edges appear dry as it's *white*, but the center if not even ~thin~ parts of the butt joint look wet in color (a tinge of grey vs white).

I'm skeptical to bed another coat in fear of creating a sandwich.
It surely must be dry now as it as hot mud....that was used. Durabond

Am I going crazy...or could it still be wet inside but it just ~set~ on the exterior.

You are good to go---

Even in a cold house three days is long enough to wait----You are correct---the mud 'sets' but is still wet for 12 to 24 hours and will slow the drying of the premixed bucket mud if applied to early.

Thanks Mike.

I was planning to get the 80 grit out and start new !

Screw holes are white.
Even the butt side of the tape - they are grey with just the very outer edges being white.

So me assuming white is dry (color of screw heads and feathereded edges), I was thinking something is wrong with the base since it's grey-ish.

The batches are fresh - Sept dates on the bag. Ruled that out.
A call to USG and the rep was telling me to even rip the base out, cause it should be white.

Pics.

Perfectly normal look---all the different muds have a different shade of white---sometimes the gray mud shows through the whiter top mus and looks bad until it's primed---
