Waterbed and settling wall

We have had a waterbed for over 5 years in a second floor bedroom in our townhouse. The head of the bed is against the wall between our house and the next townhouse. Over the last 2 years or so, I've noticed that the tape (where the drywall for the 2 walls are joined) has separated in the corner of the wall the head of the waterbed is against and the back wall. I seem to remember someone telling me that a waterbed should always be set up against an outside wall of the house and we thought that the wall joining our house to the next would be like an outside wall in terms of the structure. Any thoughts?
