Water Damage Advice Please!

Hi Guys,
I moved into a new apartment and I now noticed there are some water stains and what looks like a sagging ceiling? I do not know anything about this. Is it safe to have this in the ceiling? Any advice on what I should do? THANKS!

Is there a possibility that it can cave in? Does mold form quickly?

Water probably from a leaking roof has found its way to the seams in the drywall and of course has stained
the areas it traveled in. No signs of any moisture at any of the other nails that hold the board in place.
Can't tell about warping from the photos but it appears to be solid and in fair shape. It is really impossible
to know for sure based on a photo on the Internet.

What does the landlord have to say about it?

Mold? That's a different story. Could easily be mold on the other side.

The swollen tape and sagging s/rock is from the water damage as you already know. Judging buy the extremely crowned and visible spackle on the joints I'd say this area has been repaired before by a not-so-fussy repair guy in the past. Looks like you will need new rock again; sagging rock will give in to gravity eventually. Be advised that sagging means it has pulled away from the frame creating a gap between rock and frame. This means the fasteners are no longer doing their job and the tape is beginning to support the weight. Only a matter of time before the sheetrock is in your soup. Call your landlord and ask him for the phone number of the local health and safety board. He'll get your drift.
