Very, Very noticable ceiling height issue
3 Attachment(s)
This is small area above a closet entry way on the 2nd floor. The wall was installed parallel to the old kneewall and plumb. Apparently there is some serious sag to the 70 year old roof.

Anyway, my drywall guy told me that it wouldn't be a big deal and he'd just fill it in with some mud. Obviously, that didn't work out so good.

I'm hoping somebody can help me come up with a way to hide this issue without ripping down the new drywall. Was thinking maybe a trim board ripped at an angle or a cove molding?

Any ideas?

Did your drywall guy put the additional mud on the wrong side???:)

Without knowing what the rest of the room is like, you could do a beam type thing. I did this where I had painted paneling meet the unpainted paneling ceiling. You use 1 x 3 boards and attach them in an L pattern. The vertical piece is ripped to the angle of the ceiling and you attach it.
Again, this may not work depending on what the rest of the room is like.

A 2 inch difference is a lot to make up over a few feet.

Good luck.

No perfect fix that I've ever found.

Is the doorway at the top of a stairwell? Looks like it might be. Anyway, sometimes it's ok to just let it be the way it is.

Adding molding (2" over a couple feet) is gonna be hard to hide that amount of difference no matter how you cut it.

I would look at possibly turning that into a round archway, or at least make the top part parallel with the ceiling, instead of level with the floor. Though that might look weird too...

Well, thanks for the input. I know I'm pretty well out of luck here. Cant do anything with the doorway as this opening will house a set of bi-fold doors.

I'll probably just have to shim it out, re-drywall and re-mud it.
