using durabond as the base coat for veneer plastering

i put up blue board and used durabond for my joints. since the joints needed to be feathered and the ceiling to wall feathered, i just continued to apply durabond as the base coat. then i used two coats of veneer finish plaster as my top coat. ...my question is...was that the wrong way to do it?...but the final result is that it looks great. any answers or advantages/ disadvantages of doing it this way?
