two questions about drywall job
 
1st- When tearing down drywall to hang hardibacker I accidently pulled a chunk out by a window that measures 2 1/2 by 11in long. I cut a patch panel and screwed it in behind the corner bead around the window. So, now there is a gap between the new and old panel about 3/8 to 5/8 big. Is it ok to fill it with joint compound? I did the best I could with it but I am afraid its going to crack in the future.


2nd- The transistion between the hardibacker and the drywall is about 1/8 inch difference in height. the backerboard is 6 1/2 inches wide but I am only tiling 6 inches fron the side of the tub. This leaves me with about 1/2 in. difference from the backer to the drywall. What do I do there to hide the different depths of the two?

if i'm reading that right you can feather your mud out between the two and get a nice transition. 1/8" isnt that much.
