trying to match interior plaster over brick

I have a brick house, double brick exterior walls. the interior finish is metal lathe and plaster over the bricks (1950's construction). I have one wall where the lathe and plaster stops, and the last few feet of wall is just brick. The lathe and plaster is about 1" thick. I want to match this plaster wall and cover the brick so the whole wall has a consistent look.

What's the method here? It's only a 7' tall wall, and about 20" of wall that is needing to be plastered. I have no idea what material to use (stucco?), and if I still need to use lathe, or if I could screw/glue some hardibacker board to the bricks and plaster over that? Just to take up some of the 1" thickness so it is less plaster?

Thanks. Any help is much appreciated. Even just a website that might explain the process/materials better. I'm having a hard time finding anything specific enough.

trying to match interior plaster over brick

If the job is more than a diy'er can typically handle, I'm willing to hire someone as well. I just have no idea what sort of contractor to call for such a small job. it's less than 15 sf of wall that needs plastered...

place an ad on craigslist for drywall plaster repair. I know in my area most drywall guys wont touch plaster repairs, so the hiring process may be easier than you think.
good luck
