tiny holes in the wall : using joint compound appropriate??

i am about to cover up the holes left behind from the screw( less than 1/2 a dime size) of toilet paper holder. I am not going to replace it back but cover the holes and paint. I only have the joint compound in the house about 4 years old. I typically use the crackle for small tiny nail holes or to level a small area. Their is liquid at the top of the container. I would mix it but I wonder if 1. it is any good anymore and too if it will do this job???

Stur it up and see if there's mold in it. If it was unopened it should work.
Make sure to prime over it befor painting.

If it's 4 years old and has separated, I wouldn't use it....
