Super fine sand for final coat of plaster
I am struggling mightily to find super fine silica sand for the final coat plaster restoration. The house is >100 yrs old, hence the plaster.

I was told not to use regular masonry sand cause it is not fine enough for the final coat.

I have tried masonry yards, big box stores, you name it and no one carries fine silica sand.

There is a company in VA called VA Line Works that has it but no one in my area carries their product and I would either have to go to their site (highly impractical) or pay up to $20 per bag for shipping.

Any ideas? Maybe alternatives. For the inner coats I have used VA Lime Worx hydraulic lime (BL150) and regular masonry sand in ratio 2-5 respectively.

USG makes silica sand. That's what I think you are looking for. It's mixed into plaster to give it a fine sand like texture. Any supply company should carry, not Home Depot or lowes.

See if a company called marjam or united building and supply is any where near you.
