strategies for rearranging wires

I need to rearrange wires behind a wall and in the ceiling. Is there any best practices for doing this without creating a big drywall fix job? I'm thinking maybe like using a 4.5" hole saw and making holes to let me see what's behind the drywall and stick my hand there. How easy/difficult is it to patch up a hole made like that? Any better ideas for doing this?

strategies for rearranging wires

It is not a particular difficult task to patch a hole like that but you will have to match wall texture and so forth and tape and mud properly. What are you trying to rearrange and why? How will a 4x5 hole in the middle of a section help?
