Shower stall halfway finished. Need some help.

I have had a shower stall put into the basement and it is fully functional. It is not completely done though. What needs to be done is to wall in the outside of the shower. The shower is surrounded by studs and I would like to finish it off so it would look nicer. What material would I want to use around the shower? Is there drywall for bathrooms and wet/damp areas?

I remember watching my dad put up drywall in our old basement a few years ago and I also helped him a bit too. I remember hanging the pieces up and taping the gaps and filling with something like spackle/grout. and after that set we would sand everything down all smooth. Then came the primer and then the paint. On the corners we used 90 degree metal strips to give the corner a "sharp" look. Is this kind of what I would go about doing but with a water resistant drywall?

yes it is.

In the place that the shower is at there is a pipe coming through above it. In this situation would I just make the ceiling lower and box around it? Also will regular sheet-rock work as long as it is painted with water resistant paint? Also does it matter if I use sheet-rock nails or screws?

Sounds like you'll have to box around this pipe if you don't like looking at it. If you are just above the shower, I think you should use some dens armor or dens shield board. It will be quite moist there, maybe even water in contact as the steam condensates on the surface.

Screws are the norm now, and I would use some which won't corrode so easily. Maybe a galvanized coating.
