Question

sheets meeting at electrical receptacle

is it bad if two sheets meet around an electrical receptacle, e.g. vertically in the middle of it so half the receptacle goes into one and the other half into the other sheet? for finishing purposes? in other words, should you always be trying to aim to locate a receptacle so that is entirely surrounded by only one sheet on all sides?

thanks

Some times that happens---just tape it---you want to keep taper edge to tapered edge--butt to butt--

full sheets around doors and windows--no seams at the corners of windows or doors.--framing in those areas moves a lot--so no joints--

I've had a joint over the middle of a window in my house. No problems after a year and half on the window. I really try not to do seams around the doors.

As for outlets, it happens frequently for me. I'm not much of a planner. But I've never had a problem there.

so do you just put a rectangular sheet over the whole door frame opening and then cut out the actual opening while the perimeter is screwed in? because cutting it before hanging could break the thin strips on either side.

I do cut after I hang. From my own experience, trying to handle a sheet with the thin strip cut already is bad. I've broke every one I tried to do like that. So I use a manual drywall saw and go slow when I have the thin strips.
