Seal off two windows

I want to secure some type of material up against the inside of two horizontal windows in our upstairs hallway thus sealing out the light and creating two sizable indented framed solid back places to hang art or place what nots. Even though these windows are not needed I do not want to go through the major interior and exterior ordeal of removing them.

Please suggest an easy and Inexpensive way to accomplish this task.

That's going to look like poop inside and out. Why would you not want to do it right?

For example, a perfectly sized piece of Sheetrock is properly mounted in place, finished and painted on both sides. Two small holes would allow air to vent from and into the limited dead space between the window frame and Sheetrock. I do not know what is the proper material to place facing the window as it will be impacted by the sun. The outside wall is brick so cost is prohibitive.

Thanks for your reply.
