Replace plaster

Hi i have a room about 12'x18' that currently has plaster on it that I want to replace. I have a few questions if someone can please answer.

Can i do demolition myself or are there safety concerns?

Assuming i can do the demolition myself is there any drywallers that can give me a rough estimate as to what is should cost to drywall? I live in ny.

Gotta ask... why?

Even if it needs fairly substantial repair...
why would you want to remove the plaster rather than do that repair?

Well here's the story it's by a friend and he wants to rewire the electric in his dining room. he's gotten estimates that have been quite expensive, so I told him if he replaces the plaster I'll do the electric for free. So his response was what will it cost? And that's where I turn to you

Ha! Maybe he should just hire an electrician?

Any reason you two are unable to install the drywall?
It's home repair 101 to do it.
No one here can tell you what it's going to cost in your area. Make some local phone calls. A ball park figure will do you 0 good.

As a professional in your trade, if I were to ask you how much it would cost to wire a basement or room addition (for example), would you quote me a price in Atlanta?? Especially "sight unseen"!! It's like asking "how long is a rope"?
