Question

Removing sag from drywall repair

I had a leak in bedroom ceiling caused by a tub leak upstairs. Tub has been repaired and now I'm trying to repair ceiling damage. I have cut out a spot about 25''x 8'' in the drywall. When I put in my new drywall I discovered that the drywall had a sag where water had been collecting. My new drywall patch does not sag. I tried to "pull-up" the sag with my screws but it wasn't enough. Do I just fill in the sag with joint compound? Won't this take forever to dry? Help!!!

You can make up a T-shaped 2X4 prop to push the sag up. Or depending how big the sag area is, cut it out and replace with new.
Home Depot sells 2' X 2' patch squares.

You're better off enlarging the hole to get to a level area. If you choose to mud the difference in the pieces, use setting type compound for the fill coat.

Thanks to everyone. I just got back from Home Depot for a larger sheet of drywall. I'll try to cut out most of the sag and go from there. Thanks again.
