Tore down the ceiling in the bathroom to renovate, etc. Is it a good idea to put drywall back up for the ceiling? Or should I use some kind of green board? And I also should use more glossy paint to paint the ceiling to prevent water penetration to the new drywall

MR board on ceilings requires 12" o.c. ceiling trusses, I'm pretty sure. Check the installation data sheet from the brand you're using.

Does anyone follow these specs? Not many, most carpenters and wallboard people don't even know the specs.

Never use a gloss paint on a ceiling unless you want every single flaw to show.
Absolutely right Joe. But didn't you know that;(use)
semi paint not flat, flat will run if moisture gets to it.
:laughing:Yikes.

I've never had a problem with ceiling paint, (which is flat of course), but I recommend Zinsser's Perma-White for bath ceilings. http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=346
