quick question for 1/4-3/8 gaps.

I know that the concensus is to use setting compound to prefill large gaps. I.m doing my first rock job and have a couple of joints where I had to correct for bad framing by leaving large (about 1/4 inch gaps) in the sheetrock. I'm using moldboard for a basement job. Is it ok to use the lightweight sheet rock setting compound (90) which I have or should I use durabond. Thanks.

The 90 minute hot mud will be fine.
