Powder source?

Hey everyone,
Hoping to get some help here. A few months ago I finished my basement ceiling, primered and painted, but the room gets a lot of white powder settling on the furniture. Afraid to use the room because of it. The pipes do bang at times so Im thinking its causing the sheetrock or joint compound to shake off dust/compound? Any ideas? Thanks.

That may be from sanding dust under the base boards---have you thoroughly vacuumed and dusted the entire basement?

Sure have. Vacuumed everything. Thing is I only put up drywall on the ceiling. Is it possible for sanded joint compound to be coming down even though ceiling has been painted?

Any vents and returns down there? Could the dust have somehow entered the hvac system?

If you didnt take the time to seal off the air ducts before sanding, the drywall dust will have been distribhted throughout the ENTIRE home. You will have a mess to clean up for quit a while....
