Plexiglass mirror in shower, yes or no?

I am renovating and putting in a custom shower. When we were on vacation we saw a mirror grouted into the shower wall and loved the idea. I just found a site that offers 12x24, which is the size of my tile. Should I pull the trigger on this or is it a bad idea?

Not sure how that would even work. It's hard enough to keep the mirror over the vanity from fogging up never mind inside a shower.

You can anti-fog stuff to solve that problem but be aware plex scratches fairly easily.

I personally would not grout a mirror of any kind in place. Better to get one that hangs over the shower head or attaches with suction cups to the tile or something. If you break it or scratch it up you can replace it more easily.

Thanks. I will find one with some suction cups on the back.. no one seems to think this is the best idea.

Arg. The best mirror I found is tiny. I am going to get a piece of plexi and stick it to a tile. What is the best caulk to use to get it to stick to porcelain and that will come off the porcelain if the mirror eventually blackens.
Also, any ideas on how to seal the cut edges to prevent water from ruining the reflective surface behind the plastic?

You should be able to buy mini-suction cups separate from the mirror. Suction cup tape is elegant stuff and would be perfect for this. It would be a great alternative to possible damaging or staining the tile with an adhesive. It is easy to remove but will stick the mirror up there until you want it down. It is expensive but you will find other uses for a roll.

I don't think you will have problems with the reflective backing blackening on you. In the days when mirrors were silvered or had other metal coatings prone to oxidation? Maybe. Plex is probably going to have reflective mylar or something bonded to it.

As for size. You should be able to cut, or have cut, a piece of reflective plex to whatever size you want. Do you have a real plastics shop near you? They might have a minimal cutting charge. They can also polish the edge for you if that is an issue. Plastic edges are not as bad as glass but if you catch a finger tip on one in the shower, you may feel it unless polished. A plastic shop may also have a plastic more scratch resistant to recommend to you.

Mine has a disco ball and karaoke set-up! I suppose you see no need for them either? How can you tell if you are wet enough without a mirror? And if you put on a few how you going to see "your stuff" without a big mirror in the shower.

Maybe he likes to sing in the shower, but can't remember the words. Happens to all of us eventually.
