We have a home that was built in the 1950's. I just got done installing a new front door. The previous door had no molding, the plaster went right up and around the corner till it hit the door frame. I had to cut the plaster back in order to remove the old door and install the new.
I'm not to familar with plaster techniques but i was surprised to see that drywall was attached to the framing, with a dark grey - concrete like material ontop of the drywall and then what i assume to be a very thin plaster coat on the top of the grey.
Is this common?
Do i have plaster walls or something else?
I need to finish the interior walls where the door meets, and i am looking for suggestions. I can extend the jamb and put molding around the door, or try to create a new corner with the plaster up to the frame like it was before. My concern with the plaster is that it would be almost an inch thick. Is that to thick for plaster?
