Plaster/drywall corner problem

My 1940 house has plaster walls except for one wall in the kitchen. A detached garage was built in the 70's and an upgraded electrical panel was required. I'm assuming this is when they tore out the plaster on this wall and put in drywall. The electrical panel is right in the corner where the drywall meets the plaster. Until recently, this corner was hidden by wallpaper. I just ripped it off and see the messy corner that was left behind. The panel cover goes a bit behind the plaster and there is a gap there. I'll try to show this with pictures:

The trim on the right surrounds a door. The bit of wall to the left of the trim is plaster. It's hard to see the gap (I point to it in the picture below) but it is very noticeable in person. How can I fix this? I guess I could trim the panel cover so it doesn't go below the level of the plaster and then patch that portion of the wall. Or, could I coat the panel cover with some sort of grease, patch the plaster and then once the patch material had cured, remove the cover carefully?

One last question: When I pulled the wallpaper, I think it's the glue that got left behind:

That green is what I think is the glue...it's a bit rubbery and very hard to get off in most places. The white under is mud over the drywall. Can I just sand that glue (or what I think is glue) in places that it is very hard to remove? Thanks.

Try reading previous posts about taking glue off. Search "wallpaper glue"

Plaster/drywall corner problem

Not so worried about the glue now (but I now think it's either primer or paint) but still wondering if anyone has any ideas on patching that ugly corner against the electrical panel.
