I see post like this with questionable content and I get prompted to go to another web address? I got everything I need as far as knowledge of my profession and being a professional I offer up solutions willing. Here..not somewhere else.
I'd advocate a reliable source of info between diy-ers and professionals on this site and put questionable content to the front pages for the professionals to offer up their opinions. At this point it is obvious this system is questionable.
FWIW - Jonathan Eakes's site and Fine Home Building are both professional sites, that have been around a very, very long time. They both provide well-researched, informative, information directly related to the construction industry, and serve as good sources for building, renovation, and construction trade - reference information.

As with all facets of the trades - there is a huge variation of opinions, approaches, and methods. As a result, there are many options that some contractors agree with, while others may adamantly oppose and disagree with. Thats just how it is.

My father-in-law is a retired drywall guy and we just hung a portion of my garage this way. Just under 22' with 12' & 10' rock. It worked out with less seams and less waste. The backers in the "field" were cut to about 52" in length and screwed into the adjoining sheet and really stiffened up. Hang the first sheet, then slip in the backer in and screw it off before the next sheet goes up. Two layers of tar paper stapled to the backer give just the right thickness.

Wow! I didn't know that the question was going to be so controversial. For those that have used it, how has it held up in the long run? Has anyone used it in their basement and been able to observe it for a year or two?

I would hate to like the method but have to use it again in 5 years.

Thanks,

Peter

I have used this system for the last 7 or 8 years and I have never had ANY problems with it. I would say go to drywalltalk.com and use the search engine for butt boards and see what the real pros have to say. These are guys that hang thousands of sheets a year. Of course they are probably all spammers or trolls.

Sorry peter but it seems the controversy is from the only guy that has never used it.
