Painting over platched drywall
I patched some holes and protruding nail heads with joint compound and finished.I painted the white wall with red latex paint. The paint covered the the old paint well except for the patched places where the compound blead through.I put two more coats on with the same result. Now the entire wall is cracked.Looks like the bottom of a dried up lake.Any ideas what went wrong?

Thanks, Glenn Archer:(

Did you prime the patch?

Sounds like you didn't prime the patches
Reds can take three coats
Poor quality red paints (ie: Behr) can take 5 - 7 coats

If the whole thing is cracked, you probably have some other issues
(not letting it dry before re-coating, improper prep/contamination, latex over oil, etc...)
